Avril Lavigne released today the official music video for the song Head Above Water.
The choice for realeasing it today, September 27th, it is not fortuite, as it is Avril's birthday.
It represents a new birth, a new time, a new era in the singer's life after a long fight against Lyme's Disease.
Avril Lavigne had a 5 year break from musical industry. Her condition was so bad during this time that staying in bed was the only option when she was feeling severe pain.
In one of those episodes, she felt she could not breathe and she had the feeling death was iminet. She accepted her death and prayed to God.
She says "I had accepted I was going to die and I could feel my body disconecting. And I could feel as if I was drowning. It was as if I was under water and I needed to go above to breath."
Then lyrics just came to her and she heard the song in her head in a very spiritual experience. That's what she tries to comunicate in this beautiful song.
The video was filmed in the beautiful shore of Iceland, where they could get the medieval feeling that perfectly matched the song.
We can see a much more mature Avril Lavigne, with a sincere voice. We can feel the realness of her feelings
Head Above Water is also a come back to a more rock and melodic sound, which was her mark in the beggining of her career.
Some of her fans found some resemblance between this song and Wrecking Ball of Miley Cyrus. They are not that wrong since both had the same producer Stephan Moccio, famous for producing beautiful balads.
Here you can see her video. It's Avril's birthday but the fans are the ones who get a present with this powerful masterpiece.
